St. Valentine's Day at Mijas Bowls Club.
Report by Christine Wilson Photographs by Eric Wilson
This year St. Valentine's Day was celebrated on Thursday 13th February because of the League commitments on 14th. It was a lovely sunny day and most came dressed in something red. The fun bowling, organised by Barbara Land, took the form of the Romeos, (the men) against the Juliettes (the ladies). Each triple played 3 lots of six ends against 3 different teams on three different rinks. The Jueliettes were two ladies short and so were joined by two "international" bowlers, namely Roberta Rose and Antoinette, otherwise known as Robert Wright and Tony Land who were barely recognisable in their wigs and outfits! They were both too embarrassed to have their photographs taken for the press!
After the bowling everybody had chance to relax with a quiz and some refreshments organised by Carol Wright who was ably assisted by Carol Jacobs and Gladys Bloe.
The Romeos won the bowling overall and prizes were given to the winning men's and ladies' triples. The winning Romeos were "Tony's Torments" namely Tony Thornton, Geoff Hutton and Roy Graveling; the winning Juliettes were "Barbara's Babes" who were Barbara Land, Sheila Graveling and Pat Swift.
Come and try it! A morning of FREE bowling.
Yes, that's right. On Sunday 16th March Mijas Bowls Club is holding an "Open Morning" for any existing and would-be bowlers, of any age, who are not members of a club on the coast and it will be absolutely FREE. It will start at 10.00am and there will be some basic coaching available along with help from some of our members.
If you are interested in coming along, please telephone Ann Fenton on 952 588 321 who will be able to give you more information.
Tea or coffee will be provided and shoes and bowls will be available at no cost to you.
You will find us just off the Carretera de Mijas, on Camino de Cortijo Grande, behind Bugar, the Peugeot car sale rooms. There is a good sized car park.
We look forward to meeting you.
