Mijas Bowls Club Celebrates St. Patrick's Day
Report by Christine Wilson Photographs by Eric Wilson
Tuesday 17th March was a cold and miserable day, typically Irish weather some might say, but a little light relief from that was found when members started arriving at the club bearing plates of food and some wearing green, although the most important thing was to be dressed to keep warm.
On this occasion the event started off with the buffet lunch and was followed by fun bowling in teams of three. There were three sets each of six ends, each set requiring different skills to be put into practice. The winning team members were Trevor Watkins, Edwin Hewitt and Val Smith; the runner-up team consisted of Roberto Wright, Alan Bloom and Val Allard. They all received prizes as did the bowler who was deemed to have the best Irish costume, Frank Richardson.
After the prizes had been given, the photographs taken and the clearing up completed, it was time to leave and there was nobody more pleased to discover that the rain had kept off until then than Carol Wright, the organiser of the day.
